3 DIY gifts perfect for Spring | Mother's Day, birthdays, a treat for yourself!

Spring is a wonderful time isn't it? For me, I just love the extra hours of daylight (and sometimes sunshine) because with it, brings a whole new wave of creative inspiration and motivation! In my house I have been aptly dubbed the 'Pinterest Princess' and with this post I feel that I am successfully living up to my title.

With Mother's Day just around the corner I got to thinking of some cutsey DIY gift ideas, but these don't exclusively have to be for mothers - how about giving one as a birthday present? Or as a thank-you gift? Or just as a crafty treat for yourself?

Without further ado, I present to you my 3 DIY gifts perfect for Spring!

>> POM-POM FLOWERS <<

Who doesn't love receiving a bouqet of flowers?! Also, who doesn't love pom-poms?! Put the two together and you have the perfect combo if you ask me. These adorable little fluffy 'flowers' are the cutest way to brighten anyone's day and the best part is, they'll never wilt or die!

What you need:

Wool

Green garden wire

Card

Scissors

Hot glue gun (or some form of fast drying glue)

Method:

1. Cut the card into 2 circles of the same size (the smaller the circle, the smaller the pom-pom will be). Then cut a hole into the middle of each circle.

2. Keeping the two circles pressed together, tie a length of wool around the card and begin to wrap the wool around the edge of the circle weaving through the centre hole.

3. Once the card is completely covered and the wool has been wrapped around 2 or 3 times, tie the wool in a secure knot and begin to snip through all layers of the wool around the edge of the circle.

4. Seperate the two layers of card slightly, and wrap another piece of wool tightly between the two pieces of card and around the centre of the pom-pom. Tie it in a knot to secure the pom-pom. 

5. Remove the pieces of card and trim any excess wool.

6. Cut a length of garden wire and put some glue on one end. Push that end of the wire into the pom-pom slightly and wait a few minutes for it to dry - voila, you have a pom-pom flower!

Try making these in lots of different colours and different sizes! I like the 'less-is-more' approach but a huge bright bouquet of these would also look gorgeous!

Ok, before I begin with this recipe, I just have to say... THESE ARE AMAZING! They are honestly the most scrumptious things I have EVER tasted so even if you're not giving a gift to anyone anytime soon, I don't see the harm in just gifting yourself by making a batch of these beauties - you will not regret it!!

>> Recipe makes approx. 12 scones <<

 Ingredients:

150g raspberries

150g white Chocolate

350g self-raising flour

1 tsp baking powder

pinch of salt

75g butter

50g caster sugar

175ml buttermilk

1 egg

cream (whipped or clotted) to serve

jam (to serve)

Method:

1. Preheat your oven to 220C/ gas mark 7 and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.

2. Chop up the raspberries into halves, then chop the chocolate into smaller chunks. Leave to one side.

3. Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl. Using your fingers, rub in the butter until the mixture resembles the consistency of breadcrumbs.

4. Stir in the caster sugar then add the raspberries and the white chocolate along with the buttermilk. Use a knife to quickly combine the mixture into a dough.

5. Lightly flour your work surface and tip the dough out of the bowl. Knead it slightly then roll it out until it's approx. 4cm thick. 

6. Use a 5-6cm cutter to stamp out the scones. Place these on the baking tray and then re-roll out the leftover dough to cut out more scones. 

7. Beat the egg in a bowl and lightly brush the tops of the scones with the egg.

8. Place the scones in the oven for 10-12 minutes until well-risen and golden on the top.

9. Enjoy the scones with jam and cream or simply have them plain!

Why not wrap them up in a pretty gift box with some string to give as a tasty wee present to somebody? 

>> EASY-PEASY TEACUP CANDLES <<

Over the last year or so, turning cutsey teacups into decorative candles has become a crafty trend and I have embraced it wholeheartedly! These adorable little candles are honestly so super easy to make and a lot cheaper than you may think - pop down to your local charity shop and pick up a teacup for 50p, grab an old candle that you may have lying around and there ya go, you're already halfway done!

What you need:
Teacup
Old candle or candle wax
Candle wicks (super cheap on Amazon)
Hot glue gun or fast drying glue
Optional: essential oil or candle scents (top tip: use an old candle that is already scented so that you don't have to bother buying candle scents)

Method:
1. Glue the bottom of a candle wick to the base of your teacup. Place straws or skewers around it so that it stays centred once the wax is poured in.
2. Melt the candle wax in a saucepan (preferably an old one or one that you won't need to use for food again)
3. Pour the melted wax into the teacup - be careful because it'll be lava hot!
4. Leave to cool and harden. Trim the excess candle wick if it is too long.

Aren't these the most adorable things you ever did see? They're deffo going to be a go-to present that I give to people now!
